LOONA's Yves apologized for a controversy that arose.
Recently, some international fans took issue with Yves's profile photo and claimed that it was racist. The issue arose when Yves got swollen lips due to allergies and changed her profile photo to a close-up image of her lips on a fan communication app.
When she uploaded the photo, one Korean fan said she looked like the character Go Eun Ae from the Korean animation series 'Dallyeola Hani' or 'Run Hani.' Yves thought it was funny and decided to change her profile photo on the fan communication app to the photo of the character Go Eun Ae.
The character of Go Eun Ae is a Korean mid-aged wife of the track coach in the 1980s Korean animation series. She is seen with the typical curly hair worn by mid-aged Korean women at the time and with overdrawn lipstick.
The international community took issue with Yves's profile photo, believing it to be derogatory towards black people. Many posted about their concerns on Twitter, demanding that Yves change her profile photo and apologize.
As more international fans heightened the controversy, Yves apologized on the fan communication app for causing discomfort.
Yves wrote, "You must have been very upset that I posted a photo of Go Eun Ae as my profile photo. I used it because she was a cartoon character from the classic Korean animation series called 'Run Hani.' But I didn't think that it would be offensive. I apologize to everyone who was upset by this. From now on, before using photos of any character, I will check more thoroughly to see if there can be any misunderstandings."
People are dumb and follow their own limited logic. For Americans, curly hair and big lips have only one meaning - black people. This is racism that has been soaked into generations of Americans and they see everything through the prism of racism. To the rest of the non-poisoned world, curly hair is curly hair, and big lips are big lips.
