According to news reports that emerged on January 2nd, the hanbok that Jimin wore for the iconic 'IDOL' performance showcased at 'The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon' back in 2020 (on September 29th), has been put on exhibition at La Vie est Belle CC in Chuncheon Gangwon-do.
The hanbok was specially custom-made for Jimin by designer Kim Rieul, and entry to the exhibition is currently free.
The exhibition is exclusively for Jimin's hanbok, and so far, it has attracted many visitors, as seen from the designer's social media updates.
It is understandable why only Jimin's hanbok would be put on exhibition, given how much attention it has drawn both now and from back then.
On January 4th, the designer shared photos of numerous visitors to the exhibition on his Instagram stories. Jimin's fans are even using the location as a photo zone, and the designer is happy with the response to the exhibition.
Even back in April of 2021, the hanbok received lots of attention, particularly when Jimin's waist became a hot topic on social media after one fan visited the display room for the hanbok and asked various questions about it. As it turned out, the designer had had to make several adjustments to the suit, such as making the legs longer and the waist tinier, just so it could fit Jimin. Even the waist of the mannequin used to fit the suit for display had to be carved repeatedly to have the suit fit properly. The hanbok is one of a kind with very fine details and shape, only designed to fit Jimin's body.
Evidently, aside from the fact that the suit showcases tradition and modernity simultaneously, which makes it an eye-catching piece, the suit is also an absolute masterpiece specially designed for a perfect body, and thus very appealing to the eye.
Various media outlets even picked up the hot trending news regarding Jimin's perfect body proportions and the hanbok, such as "Mingguan Malaysia."
The article in this newspaper mentions how many designers in South Korea find it challenging to design shirts and pants for Jimin due to his tiny 27-inch waist.
This statement further reinforces the notion that Jimin's hanbok that is currently on display is a work of art and a masterpiece that took a lot of time and effort to create and is therefore absolutely worthy of being put on exhibition exclusively.
This same hanbok was also initially set to be actioned precisely because of how exquisite it is in its design and visuals, with the starting bid having been set at close to $5,000.
In this case, as well, it was only Jimin's hanbok that had been selected to be auctioned despite the fact that the designer had made other hanboks, thereby showing how much of a priced possession Jimin's hanbok was and still is to him. The designer wanted to auction the traditional Korean attire to promote Korean Culture, and proceeds from the auction were to be donated towards the support of the underprivileged populations in Korean society.
It was an important time for the designer to auction the hanbok because it was Hanbok Culture Week, and so he was striving for representation of the country's culture to be made visible to all.
Meanwhile, the present location for the exhibition was built in the unique traditional Korean hanok style and is thus a perfect setting to exhibit the hanbok, which has elements of traditional Korean attire.
Just recently, he received massive praises from different government tourism organizations for being a champion of his country's tourism industry and also for his evident economic impact on the country in terms of boosting local product exports, specifically food exports.
Here is the performance video for IDOL on The Tonight Show.
