On May 27, KQ Entertainment released an official announcement via ATEEZ's fan cafe, clarifying fans' suspicions about the group's upcoming single for the finale of Mnet's 'Kingdom: Legendary War'.

KQ Entertainment stated,

"Hello, this KQ Entertainment.

Tomorrow, ATEEZ's new single for the final round of Mnet's 'Kingdom: Legendary War', titled 'The Real', will be released via major music platforms on May 28 at 12 PM KST.

The track 'The Real', which will be revealed during the final round, was recorded before member Mingi announced his hiatus from promotions; as a result, the track will be released as an 8-member version, but the broadcast performance will feature a 7-member version, just like the 'Kingdom' stages shown so far. We would like to ask ATINY for your consideration in advance, as there was concern that after hearing Mingi's voice in the song, you may out of surprise and joy expect to see an 8-member stage."
