The Many Achievements OF BTS Jimin's Solo Song "Promise"

Posted by ashes20696 pts Saturday, November 14, 2020

Ever since Jimin released his first non-album solo song “Promise” for free as the ultimate New Year’s Eve gift to the world on December 30th 2018 on the BTS SoundCloud page, it has gone on to achieve huge global success - and even today, in 2020, the meteoric rise of the single continues. The song has over 250M streams as of November 13 2020.

The song, also the first song to be composed by Park Jimin himself, is a mellow acoustic guitar driven pop ballad which provides the perfect platform for Jimin to showcase his gentle tenor vocals, and acts as an emotional note from Jimin to himself, as well as to the ARMY.

Considering its sentimental back story, it’s no surprise that the song has been popular the world over - but just how popular is quite staggering.

Within just 24 hours of the New Year’s Eve release of “Promise” on SoundCloud, it had broken the SoundCloud record for the most ever streams in 24 hours of a song’s release, with an astounding 8.5million streams in its first day of being shared. It easily beat the record before it, achieving more than double the streams of the previous record held by "Duddy Freestyle," by Drake, which had reached a lower 4.9 million streams in the same amount of time.

Today, it is still the most famous K-pop single in SoundCloud history and the second most streamed song on the platform.

Shortly after unveiling his solo song,

to talk to fans about his feelings behind the song. "Everyone, you've waited a long time, right?" Jimin wrote, while sharing a link to the song, "I finally shared my own song with the public. This is a song for me, as it is a song for you. It's the first time and it is still premature but please enjoy it. Thank you for waiting, ARMY.”

Naturally, directly after its release, both the phrases "Jimin" and "Promise" were trending on Twitter worldwide for the next day, with fans across the planet celebrating and streaming the single release.

But, the achievements of “Promise” don’t stop there.  On Youtube, the lyric video for “Promise” has more views than any other K-pop soloist - ever. Right now, the video has had an incredible 70million views… and the numbers are growing steadily..

With these achievements following the release of “Promise” in mind, it’s not a surprise that in Gallup Korea’s annual survey of the most popular idols, Jimin ranked 1st in both 2018 and 2019.

If  Jimin's fans'  listening habits are anything to go by, you can expect “Promise” to continue its monumental rise into 2021 and beyond.
