On May 11, the 'K-Pop Cover Dance Festival in Canada' took place at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe in Ottawa.
Starting in February, K-Pop dance cover teams from all over the globe made submissions for the 'K-Pop Cover Dance Festival' hosted by Seoul Shinmun and the Korean Cultural Center. For 5 months from April to September, festivals are held in 10 nations around the world, with the first one kicking off in Indonesia on April 21. Winners from each nation will be invited to perform at the finals in Seoul in October.
For the festival in Canada, a total of 11 cover dance teams were invited to perform. K-Pop fans from Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, and more came to show support. Popular boy group Snuper also made attendance as the special judge.
Shin Maeng Ho of Canada Korean Cultural Center stated, "'Korean Week' hosted by Canada Korean Cultural Center is starting on the 17th. We're delighted to have the first 'K-Pop Cover Dance Festival' in Ottawa to start the week. We also want to deliver thanks to Snuper for making the special visit."
Out of the 11 cover dance teams, the co-ed group, Daam, placed 1st with their remarkable performance of Dream Catcher's "Chase Me." The judges praised Daam's synchronized moves to the tough and speedy choreography.
The leader of Daam stated, "We're honored for this opportunity that allowed us to dance all we want. We're looking forward to going to Korea. We're grateful for everything."
Following the festival, Snuper performed for over 900 K-pop fans at the invitational concert by the Korean Cultural Center. The 5-members lit the stage with performances of "You In My Eyes," "The Star of Stars," and more.
