The Seoul High Court finally announced its ruling on 53-year-old college professor Jang, who was indicted for force-feeding feces, urine, and inflicting other grotesque forms of abuse on his underling for two years.
During Jang's appeals trial which progressed on August 30, the court affirmed its original ruling of sentencing Jang to eight years in prison.
Jang, who worked as a professor at a university located in Gyeonggi Province, was indicted last August for his cruel and ghastly acts of physical abuse toward 'A', a man he had employed for his academic society's secretariat. The abuse was said to have lasted for two years starting in March of 2013. The abusive acts included force-feeding 'A' bodily waste such as urine and feces, beating him with an aluminum rod and baseball bat, and spraying his face with tear-gas.

Jang reportedly gagged 'A', encased his face with a plastic bag, and sprayed him with tear-gas used for self-defense, resulting in severe burns on 'A's body. Further, Jang is charged with embezzling the funds which were meant for research and the academic society.
At the first trial, the court had sentenced Jang to 12 years in prison, two years over the ten years which was the prosecution's suggestion. However, due to the victim's wish for Jang to not be punished and the preclusion of Jang's other charges on the indictment, the court decided to overrule the first sentencing of 10 years and lower the total number of years to be served down to 8.
