The singer opened up with a story of how his father broke his back to pave a life for his family after immigrating to the U.S. He revealed during the interview, "My father lives very diligently. I think about what great courage it must have taken for him to move to the U.S. thirty years ago. He would leave very early in the morning and come home very late [at night]."

Eric Nam continued, "There were times when I really wanted to call [the entertainer and singing career] quits and just go [back home]. I felt depressed and I didn't want to [continue my singing career], and one time I told my father that I wanted to quit, crying. But I felt sorry for saying something like that [to him]. He's working very hard so I can't complain to him like that. I didn't want to disappoint him in that regard."
