The very first official airing of 'Duet Song Festival,' which had been immensely popular with its Lunar New Year's pilot and Chuseok pilot, was on April 8, featuring some of your favorite and Korea's most talented singers! But who took the very first win on the very first official broadcast on MBC?
The program centers on an artist pairing up with an ordinary citizen and performing together while accumulating live votes during the stage. Whoever ends up with the most votes in the end takes home the win! On this episode, it was EXID's Solji x Doo Jin Soo, f(x)'s Luna x Goo Hyun Mo, MAMAMOO's Solar x Kim Jung Hwa, Jessi x Kim Suk Goo, Min Kyung Hoon x Lee Sung Dam, Kang Kyun Sung x Choi Ji Ye, and MC Baek Ji Young who had a surprise performance, joining the competition with 19-year-old high school student, Choi In Hee.
MAMAMOO's Solar prepared a powerful performance of Ailee's "I'll Show You" while Kim Jung Hwa provided a powerful rap, receiving 421 points. At the end, everybody gave them a standing ovation! Jessi's team performed g.o.d's "Lies," garnering 415 points. They were unable to beat leading team at the time, Min Kyung Hoon's team, which got 432 points, having taken first place from Solar and Kim Jung Hwa. Kang Kyun Sung and Choi Ji Ye performed Lee Seung Hwan's "You, You" with the former impressing everybody with his incredibly high notes. They were only able to get 424 points, however.
Min Kyung Hoon's team was unable to keep the lead, getting beat by just one point by Luna's team. They had gotten 433 points for covering Lim Jae Bum's "For You." Luna had introduced her partner Goo Hyun Mo's skills by saying, "He told me he always performed on the streets of Australia for three years."
Were they able to maintain the first spot for the win in the end? They were up against the powerful vocalist Solji and her partner Doo Jin Soo - they were actually the returning champs from the Lunar New Year's pilot! The two performed Davichi's "8282" and took the win in the end with a mere three-point difference: 438 points!
Congrats to them once again! They must be a true power pair for taking their second win on the show! Check out the performances below.
