Welcome to the second edition of our 'K-indie Spotlight' series where we introduce various independent artists in Korea each month! As was stated in our first article, this particular series was created to give a chance for our niche readers who are not just into the K-Pop scene, but also those who are interested in discovering the huge diversity of music in South Korea to add on to their playlists.
With the help from 'Onstage [K],' a Korean indie music program that introduces the authentic beauty of Korean contemporary music to the world, we hope to be adding diversity and possibly enlightening our readers with the Korean music scene that has not yet been touched on.
Check out the round of K-indie artists for this month below!

Kwon Tree
Kwon Tree is a genuine musician that carries on the beautiful legacy of Korean folk music.
This talented artist made himself known to the public by becoming the "Rookie of May" at the 'Hello Rookies' last year. With his first album, 'Picture,' released in November 2014, he won four nominations at the 'Korean Music Awards' and received Best Folk Song with the album's title song "When I Was Young." His soft and gentle music heals and consoles the weary souls, just like a big tree that gives us a quiet place to sit and rest.
Soul Train
Soul Train is an 8-member soul band formed in 2008 by guitarist Kwak Kyung-mook. The band was named after the
American musical variety show 'Soul Train' and first gained
recognition through performing musical tribute to singer Kim Choo Ja at the 'Jisan Valley Rock Festival' in 2010 and 2011. The octet released their first full-length
album, 'Band Soul Train,' in 2011 and their second release is bound to see
the light of day later this month. They not only display the feelings and sentiments of soul music, but also give it a Korean spin to create rich and dynamic sounds.
Danpyunsun and the Sailors
Danpyunsun and the Sailors is a 4-member psychedelic folk band comprised of Danpyunsun, Kwon Ji-young, Jang Do-hyuk and Choi Woo-young. They released their first album, 'Animal,' in October 2014, which was crowned Best Rock Album at the '12th Korean Music Awards'. With their very distinct sound, the foursome lead a paradigm shift in Korean rock. There may be some who have never listened to the music of Danpyunsun and the Sailors, but all it takes is one listen to get hooked.
PATiENTS
PATiENTS is a hybrid punk band formed in 2006 that goes beyond the limits of the genre in an anti-punk way. The band consists of bassist and vocalist Jo Su- Min, drummer Lee Jae Hyuk and keyboard player Kwon Hyuck Jang. PATiENT's first album was released back in 2011 where they incorporated a variety of sounds into their music to create a distinctive - hybrid punk- style. Despite their various attempts of experimenting with their sound, the band continues to be deeply rooted in punk rock. The band is known for writing dark lyrics that contradict their bright sounds.
