HIGH SCHOOL: LOVE ON, EPISODE 11
"Angel power" slows Seul Bi's fall
RECAP
Sung Yeol is morose because he saw the kiss (the one between Woo Hyun and Seul Bi -- you have been paying attention haven't you?). At home, Sung Yeol can't get the image of the kiss out of his head. He calls it a night. In gym class the next morning, the class plays catch with baseballs, and Sung Yeol nails Woo Hyun in the side so they stop to recuperate. Ji Hye, after intercepting the kids in the hall, visits Woo Hyun while he's in the nurse's office, acts like a tender mom, and plays it off when he wakes up. Later, Ye Na pushes Seul Bi down some steps (trying to get on Young Eun's good side), but is saved by the first mortal angel. Unfortunately this has a visible effect, and one of the bullies sees this. Sung Yeol saves a kid from the bullies and chides Jae Seok, making it sound like he was bullied at one time.
Sung Yeol's stepmother tries to console him
Woo Hyun's best friend, Ki Soo, continues to connect with Young Eun's little sister, who says she's nice and funny outside of school. Sung Yeol continues to spend the night with Woo Hyun and Seul Bi. He wants to change schools due to his unrequited love and doesn't try to brush off his step mom when she offers a comforting hand. At school, the bullies try to force a student to dance, but Woo Hyun and Sung Yeol get the whole class to join in while Woo Hyun wows everyone with his dancing.
The weird thing that happened when Seul Bi fell is on the minds of everyone who saw this and causes the bullies to tail her to find out the truth. They end up witnessing a meeting between the first human angel and Seul Bi, leading them to believe she is being paid for sex. In reality, the meeting is to mark her as an angel as punishment for vacillating, alternating between human and angel. Sung Yeol's dad calls; he left his wallet at home and wants his son to bring it to the restaurant. Sung Yeol grabs his stepmother's necklace and compares it to the necklace given to Woo Hyun by his mother -- he finds they fit together perfectly! He knows that Ji Hye is really Woo Hyun's mom...

MY TAKE
So Sung Yeol now knows about his stepmother's previous family. And Woo Hyun is his step brother. He'd been puzzled before about why the locket meant so much to her, and now he knows. I'm eager to find out where the writers are going with this. There are scenes in the preview for the next episode in which it looks like Sung Yeol's practically been through a war zone. I wonder why? And what is this going to do to Woo Hyun? Knowing that your mother who abandoned you is your friend's stepmom and a teacher at your school can't be easy.
And, of course, there's a new wrinkle to the angel plot. No one can know Seul Bi is an angel. But she has this mark on her wrist now that marks her as such. And it even glows and blinks. So, there's this mark on your body that pretty much screams, "I'm not normal," yet if she's discovered to be an angel, she has to leave. Of course, I would think it would be easy enough to cover it with bracelets, bandages, what-have-you.
The two pendants fit together perfectly
The bullies got a huge amount of screen time in this episode. I can't think of another installment in which they're featured so prominently. It made things more fun -- after all, what's a school drama without bullies? -- but at the same time, these guys do things that make me ask why a whole class would submit to them. Most of the time, their classmates just ignore them and this creates more tension. In this episode, like every other one, Sung Yeol or Woo Hyun has to intervene. It's nice that the little thugs keep losing, but most of the time, I wish they'd just stop. I don't know, I suppose that's another writers' trick: make you despise them so much that you want to see them get their comeuppance.
Seul Bi loses her balance and lands in Woo Hyun's arms -- the writers are such teases!
This keeps getting more and more fun. I like the situations they've set up, but I'd like a little more continuity. We don't hear much about Grandma anymore, and are they still in danger of losing the store? True, I really don't want to see that sleazy pair of loan sharks again, but still... Maybe I'm expecting too much. This episode was packed quite full -- there were several times I thought it was almost over. What will Sung Yeol do with the information about his stepmom? How would his dad react if he were to find out? What would Woo Hyun's reaction be? And would it be even harder to keep Seul Bi's secret safe now that she has a fairly obvious brand on her arm? What do you guys think will happen?
