It has now come to public attention that two celebrities, revealed as Mr. Lee (29) and Mr. Son (28), have attempted to evade military service under the guise of mental illness. It seems highly likely at this point that they will receive criminal punishment and enlist in the army after a reexamination.
The Military Manpower Administration disclosed to Dispatch on June 25, "The suspicion that the celebrities in question have purposely evaded military service has been proven. We sent the indictment to the prosecutors. In the future, the level of criminal punishment will be decided in trial."
Afterwards, the two celebrities will be reexamined. The Military Manpower Administration rep said, "Because they violated the military service act, they need to receive the medical examination again. Then, based on their results, they will fulfill their military obligation."
Both Mr. Lee and Mr. Son were placed in the fifth rank after their medical examination on the grounds of mental illness. Although people in the fifth rank would still have to take part as a draftee if an actual war were to break out, they were otherwise exempt from military service. However, the Military Manpower Administration views these mental illnesses by these two celebrities to have been falsified.

The rep said, "Mr. Lee and Mr. Son submitted a breakdown of their mentality and treatment as proof during the medical examination. However, since finishing the medical examination, they did not attend a mental clinic. In addition, they've always continuously done activities as celebrities. It is as if they tricked us into believing they had mental illnesses in order to avoid military service."
However, it was revealed that both were not as active in promotions these days. Mr. Lee was revealed to have been garnering popularity and starring in different dramas up to the second half of the 2000s, but was barely promoting nowadays. Mr. Son was revealed to have been a musical planner and appeared on a cable channel program in 2010.
The rep lastly added that they've started looking into past military service exemptions of various athletes and entertainers starting in January and will continue to do so.
