Comedian Boom, who was discharged from the military last month, has come under fire for being given an�extraordinarily�high number of vacation days during his time in the army. Democratic Senator Shin Hak Yong of the National Defense Commission revealed a report on September 19th, which gave the official breakdown statistics of weight training and firing scores, disciplinary actions, rewards and vacation days given to celebrities enlisted in the army. According to these results, Boom was given a whopping 150 days of leave over his service period of 665 days. This means that 22.5% of his enlistment period was spent on vacation. This is the greatest number of vacation days given to any celebrity soldier, and when compared to the standard 35 days of leave given to ordinary soldiers, Boom received a vacation four times more than his peers. Boom wasn't alone in being a celebrity with a higher-than-normal number of leave days. For instance, Dynamic Duo's Choiza and Gaeko each received 129 and 117 days of vacation, Shinhwa's Andy (who is scheduled for discharge next month) received 110 days, Kim Jung Hoon received 94 days, while actors Lee Dong Wook and Kim Jae Won each received 91 and 90 days of vacation. Senator Shin emphasized, "Even though special considerations are allowed for celebrity soldiers, this must not cause negligence towards gunfire training or physical fitness." A representative of the army explained that the reason why celebrities receive more vacation days than ordinary soldiers is because they're often required to participate in a wide variety of activities in promoting the Korean military overseas.�According to Senator Shin, Boom received 35 more days of vacation as a reward - the most any celebrity soldier has received. Boom's agency stated, "It's hard to say anything since it was something that happened while he was in the army, but even when he was on vacation, he went back in immediately if they called him, so the actual case is somewhat different to the said situation."
