It's mission complete for figure skater Kim Yuna! From the dark, mysterious charisma of 'Danse Macabre' to the lovely CF gal, her career as both an athlete and a national icon doesn't seem to stop. On October 17th, Kim Yuna transformed as a Bond-Gal and wowed the entire world once more. The world champion won the short program at the Grand Prix figure skating series opener of the 2009-2010 season in Paris. The 19 year-old skater received an overall score of 76.08, falling short of her personal best and world record of 76.12 set just set at the world championships in March. Her rival as well as the formal world champion, Mao Asada of Japan received 58.96, setting a huge difference, score wise. Asada, however, failed to complete her trademark, triple axel, at the beginning of her program. From her attire to the charming facial expressions, the powerful, elegant movement to the James Bond-theme arrangement earned her the top place. Kim's first jump, the triple touch-triple loop combination was executed flawlessly, succeeded by her triple flip jump. Her persona as both an artist and an athlete shined through her program. Her brisk act ended with the Bond-trademark: the 'gun shooting' position. Audience's comments praised her brilliance stating: "Watching her captivates you from the very start, she is surely a hopeful to becoming one of the greatest figure skaters," "Nobody can be compared to the artistic persona of Kim Yuna." "This was the first time I was skating my program and ultimately everything went fine," says Kim, "I was able to deliever a good performance to the audience and that's great." She is hoping to win her first gold in the Vancouver Winter Olympics early next year. She will perform to George Gershwin's "Piano Concerto in F Major" in Saturday's free skate.
