The American Remakes of Korean drama's and movies just won't stop. From remaking Il Mare, My Sassy Girl, and a Tale of Two sisters to the Drama series My Lovely Samsoon, it seems Hollywood is applying the "Korean Wave" (Hallyu) in it's own way. The American Remake this time is for the popular film "OldBoy." According to Variety, Dreamworks is in talks to secure the rights for the film and the distribution would be through Universal. Steven Spielberg would be the director and Will Smith would take the role as Oh Dae-su. I don't know why they would need to remake OldBoy, considering it had so much international acclaim, winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. It's a movie that has universal appeal without a remake. Remaking OldBoy would be sacrilegious to some. I don't really mind the remaking of other Korean productions, but OldBoy is probably better off left alone. Update: Variety is reporting that Hollywood wants to remake another Korean movie named "Die Bad."
