A YouTuber who faced controversy for allegedly illegally entering his ex-girlfriend's home and committing dating violence has returned to YouTube activities, stirring a debate.

Recently, once-popular Mukbang YouTuber Woongei resumed his channel activities by uploading new mukbang videos.

On February 25, he made a comeback announcement with a video titled 'Greetings After a Year.' In it, he expressed regret, saying, "I apologize for any disappointment caused by recent unfortunate incidents. Over the past year, I've taken time to reflect and introspect." He also acknowledged his shortcomings, admitting, "As a public figure, I should have been more cautious in my interactions with others."

Woongei continued, "Reflecting on my experiences, I've come to appreciate the value of sharing joyful food moments on camera. Moving forward, I aim to approach my content with sincerity, caution, and a mature attitude."

In December 2022, Woongei was arrested for allegedly illegally entering the home of his ex-girlfriend, Ms. A, in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and physically assaulting her. He called a locksmith to break into his ex-girlfriend's home and assaulted her when she returned home. At the time, Woongei clarified, "I was brought in for questioning based on the other party's claims of assault." His reputation took another hit when a leaked audio recording revealed his use of profanity.

Furthermore, Woongei's legal team announced plans to counter-sue Ms. A for false accusations. Allegedly, Ms. A had extorted 200 million KRW (~148,000 USD) from Woongei by leveraging his celebrity status.

Despite Ms. A pressing additional charges against him, including sexual assault and illegal filming, Woongei was eventually cleared of all charges.

Since returning, Woongei has been consistently uploading mukbang videos. However, his viewership has seen a significant decline since the incident. While he previously garnered hundreds of thousands of views, his recent videos have been getting between 50,000 to 100,000 views.

Netizens have been vocal in their criticisms. Comments on his videos range from "Hasn't he learned his lesson?" and "Why did he come back?" to "I can't stand watching this," "Shouldn't he be eating prison foods instead of these foods?" and "I thought he was retiring from YouTube."
