In 2024, Kim Jeong Ja (84), the oldest examinee taking the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) in Korea, secured admission to Sookmyung Women's University.
On January 25, Sookmyung Women's University announced that Kim Jeong Ja, born in 1941, would join as a freshman majoring in social welfare at the Future Education Institute for the 2024 academic year.
President Jang Yoon Geum of Sookmyung Women's University personally invited Kim Jeong Ja to the campus on January 22, presenting her with a scholarship certificate and an honorary student ID. In a supportive gesture, the university plans to provide Kim Jeong Ja with a one-year scholarship. Additionally, recognizing her desire to converse in English with her grandchildren who live abroad, the university will also assist her in English education.
Expressing her commitment, Kim Jeong Ja assured the president, "I will not set aside my pencil as long as my health allows it." She added, "Commencing my studies in March, I aim to delve even deeper. While my grades may not be exceptional due to my age, I am determined to approach my studies with diligence."
It is also known that Kim Jeong Ja made a television comeback on the tvN entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block' on December 13, 2023, marking a return after four years.
During the show, Kim Jeong Ja revealed her aspiration to attend a specific university, saying, "I aspire to join Sookmyung Women's University, pursuing studies in the Department of English Language and Literature. Even if it means a lifelong commitment, I have a special reason – our granddaughter graduated from there, singing praises about the institution as the best. I share her pride and want to be part of that esteemed community."
Good for her! It's never too late to study, keeps the little grey cells active.
