Actress Ko So Young opened up about a viral photo taken while she was volunteering for the Green Mothers’ Association (volunteer group of parents, mostly mothers, who help ensure children's safety by directing traffic and assisting with school commutes), a school safety patrol program.
On April 9th, a video titled “Ko So Young Couldn’t Escape the Green Mothers’ Club Either” was uploaded to her YouTube channel. In the video, producers showed Ko the photo of her in the Green Mothers’ vest, which had recently circulated widely online, and asked about its backstory.
“I thought it was funny too. I really didn’t like that picture,” Ko admitted. “The proportions are off, my facial expression isn’t great… I was caught in the middle of volunteering. I think a parent took it from their car.”

She continued, “Apparently it became really popular in some online mom communities. I don’t know why. But my husband says he finds it oddly charming,” she laughed. “Once you do this, you start feeling a sense of duty. You shout, ‘Kids!’ then ‘Whistle!’ and ‘Stop the car!’ The cars really listen to your hand signals. It felt meaningful to be protecting children’s safety.”
The actress, who debuted 33 years ago, recently launched her own YouTube channel to connect with fans more personally. In her first teaser released on April 9th, Ko expressed nervous excitement: “I’m worried about whether I’ll be good at this… I’m afraid people won’t watch. But I’m still here!”
