'The Witch' has topped Netflix's daily rankings, beating out dramas including 'Melo Movie' and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.'
According to the OTT content search platform Kinolights, on March 3, 'The Witch' ranked first in the "Netflix Rankings of the Day."
Based on the webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, 'The Witch' is a mystery thriller romance that follows Park Mi Jung (played by Noh Jung Ui), a girl known as a "witch," and Lee Dong Jin (played by Park Jin Young), who seeks to break the law of misfortune surrounding her.
In episode 6, which aired on March 2, Dong Jin's desperate efforts to change Mi Jung’s fate unfold intensely. While analyzing data on past incidents surrounding Mi Jung, he discovered a recurring pattern. Up until 2013, about 40 people had been injured in various accidents near Mi Jung, with two directly related deaths. Based on these findings, he outlined five conditions that establish the "Law of Death" but needed more data to solidify his theory.
To refine his hypothesis, Dong Jin sought out Eun Sil (played by Jang Hee Ryung), who had been closest to Mi Jung for nine years since their time in Korea University’s English Department. He hoped to gather additional data, including Mi Jung’s university years, to minimize errors in his theory.

Moved by Dong Jin’s sincerity in wanting Mi Jung to live a normal life, Eun Sil agreed to help. She, too, wanted Mi Jung to step out of isolation and believed Dong Jin could be the key to making that happen.
However, Eun Sil revealed that Mi Jung’s university life was not much different from her high school years. Despite dressing in dark clothing and trying to remain unnoticed, she ironically drew even more attention, particularly from male students. She became so popular that students from other departments would seek her out.
During this time, a series of accidents occurred on campus. Students fell down stairs, got injured during sports, or suffered major motorcycle accidents. Rumors spread that Mi Jung was connected to these incidents, and a senior named Ik Jong (played by Joo Jong Hyuk) fueled the speculation by saying, “Anyone who likes her gets hurt or dies.”
The turning point came when Professor Jung (played by Kwon Da Sol), who had feelings for Mi Jung, suffered a fatal accident. He confessed his feelings to her, but Mi Jung, sensing an ominous presence, abruptly left the scene. Moments later, as he was watching her from a windowsill, he lost his balance and fell to his death.

Unable to endure the intensifying "witch" rumors, Mi Jung ultimately dropped out of school.
Eun Sil, who had been drawn to Mi Jung since their first meeting, remained her only friend. Even as the "witch" rumors spread, Eun Sil never believed them and continued to visit Mi Jung after she left school.
When Eun Sil found her again, Mi Jung was living alone in a soon-to-be-demolished area, completely isolating herself from society. She refused to leave, resigned to her circumstances, saying, “This is the only way I can live.” Concerned for Mi Jung’s safety, Eun Sil helped her move into her current rooftop room.
After hearing Mi Jung’s story, Dong Jin decided to personally meet the people who had been injured in past accidents. Most of them met at least one of the five conditions he had identified in his "Law of Death" theory, while Professor Jung had met all five. However, relying on uncertain memories and records alone was not enough to prove the theory’s validity.

Ultimately, Dong Jin resolved to test the "Law of Death" himself in the present. If his hypothesis was correct, he would be the most at-risk person.
Despite the danger, Dong Jin did not hesitate. Instead, he disguised himself as a delivery worker bringing Mi Jung her ordered necessities. As he approached her home and the door finally opened, the two came face-to-face for the first time.
With tension so thick it suffocates viewers, they are left wondering what consequences Dong Jin’s experiment will bring.
