The YouTube channel ‘MaeBoolsShow’ has officially apologized for cultural critic Kim Gap Soo’s controversial comments regarding the late Kim Sae Ron and announced that the segment in which he appeared will be permanently canceled.
During a live broadcast on March 18 KST, the show’s hosts addressed the issue, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the controversy caused by yesterday’s broadcast. We deeply regret this incident.” They continued, “While we understand that an apology should be specific, detailing the matter could further escalate the controversy or cause unintended harm. We also apologize for this limitation.”
The hosts then confirmed, “The segment in question will be permanently discontinued. We will take a more cautious approach to our broadcasts and engage in deeper self-reflection. Once again, we sincerely apologize.”
The controversy stemmed from the March 17 episode of ‘MaeBoolsShow’, where Kim Gap Soo, during the ‘Afternoon MaeBool Debate’ segment, made inappropriate remarks regarding the alleged past relationship between Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun.
Kim stated, “From the way this news is being reported, it’s as if dating a minor is some kind of enormous crime.” He further commented, “Kim Sae Ron was a child actress, so she was probably socialized at an early age. I heard she started dating at 16, and the man was 27. Personally, I wouldn’t have considered her a romantic partner at that age because she was too young. I’ve never dated a young woman, so it wouldn’t have suited me.”
When the host intervened, pointing out that his choice of words was inappropriate, Kim persisted, saying, “That’s just an individual preference, isn’t it?”
Following the backlash, ‘MaeBoolsShow’ edited out Kim Gap Soo’s remarks from the uploaded video, but criticism continued to mount. The channel’s decision to permanently cancel the segment reflects its efforts to address the controversy and prevent similar incidents in the future.
