Lee Dong Wook shared his thoughts on his latest project, 'The Divorce Insurance,' which is his first romantic comedy-drama in 7 years.

'The Divorce Insurance' is a romantic comedy-drama that follows an elite team of insurance company innovators as they develop a divorce insurance product to tackle what has become one of the most pressing issues of modern times: divorce. The drama stars Lee Dong Wook, Lee Joo Bin, Lee Kwang Soo, and Lee Da Hee in leading roles.

Divorce is something that can happen to anyone. Through the process of creating divorce insurance, the drama portrays a heartwarming and relatable journey of adults striving to live authentically after unexpected separations.

This project has drawn significant attention as it marks top actor Lee Dong Wook’s return to the romantic comedy genre after seven years. In the series, he plays No Gi Joon, an actuary in the Innovative Product Development Team at Plus Insurance. Despite having an impressive resume and expertise, he has gone through three divorces that have drained both his wallet and soul. After a series of failed product launches, he decides to develop a divorce insurance product, seeing divorce as an unforeseen life disaster in an era of skyrocketing divorce rates.

During the online press conference held in the afternoon, Lee Dong Wook explained his decision to take on the role, mentioning his recent projects such as 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed' and 'A Shop for Killers.' He said, “My previous works were mostly in the fantasy genre, so I wanted to choose something that people could enjoy more casually. I wanted to showcase No Gi Joon’s charm and warmth, and I hope viewers appreciate it.” He also shared his excitement about returning to romantic comedy after 7–8 years, adding, “It’s been a long time, so I really enjoyed it. In my recent roles, I was often flying around and doing action scenes, so this time, it was physically easier. The comedic ‘tiki-taka’ banter and chemistry-building process were especially fun.”

Director Lee Tae Yoon revealed the casting process, saying, “I personally love Lee Dong Wook. No matter what, I wanted to work with him.” He continued, “When I read the script, I thought, ‘Who could play someone who’s been divorced three times?’ Then I came across a photo of Lee Dong Wook wearing a cap with a goofy expression, and I thought, ‘That’s No Gi Joon.’ It was the perfect look of someone who has weathered three divorces, so I immediately decided to cast him.”

On the same day, the production team released a full highlight reel, introducing the main characters engagingly and humorously. Alongside Lee Dong Wook’s No Gi Joon, Lee Kwang Soo takes on the role of “Ahn Joon Man,” a cautious and meticulous safety-first advocate. Lee Da Hee plays “Jeon Na Rae,” a financial mathematician who views the world purely from an investment perspective. Meanwhile, Lee Joo Bin portrays “Kang Han Deul,” an insurance underwriter who emerges stronger after experiencing divorce. Their distinct characters and dynamic chemistry have heightened anticipation for the drama.

Lee Dong Wook has promised plenty of laughs with this drama, stating, “Rather than focusing solely on divorce, the message is that both marriage and divorce should be about personal happiness. This drama is not just about humor. It also encourages viewers to reflect on themselves and consider how much they are truly living for their own happiness.” Viewers can expect both entertainment and a chance for self-reflection.

Adding to the excitement, the project is helmed by director Lee Won Seok, known for his witty and visually striking work in 'Killing Romance,' and writer Lee Tae Yoon, who has previously crafted fresh and unique narratives in dramas such as 'Secret Royal Inspector & Joy,' 'The Undateables,' and 'Tamra, the Island.' Their collaboration has raised expectations among viewers.

The upcoming 'The Divorce Insurance,' an office romantic comedy, is set to premiere on March 31 at 8:50 PM KST and will also be released globally via Amazon Prime Video.
