A travel agency, operated by a contestant from the popular Korean reality show 'Produce 101 Season 2,' has recently become embroiled in a scam controversy.
According to an MBC News Desk report on February 20, numerous victims have come forward, claiming they were defrauded by the agency, which had been promoting travel experiences linked to the former contestant.
The agency, which mainly offered Southeast Asia tour packages, is led by an individual identified as 'A'. MBC News introduced 'A' as a former contestant on the well-known K-pop variety program, with a blurred image from 'Produce 101 Season 2' shown in the broadcast.
Earlier this month, the agency abruptly canceled travel bookings without any prior notice and promised refunds. However, victims have reported that they never received their money, and the agency ceased all communication. When victims visited the agency’s office, they found that both the signboard and staff had disappeared. So far, 15 victims have been confirmed.
'A', the agency's representative, claimed he was only a temporary figurehead, stating, "I was asked to lend my name temporarily to assist with transferring shares. It was supposed to be a short-term arrangement, but now I’m shocked by what happened."
The police have reportedly issued a summons for 'A' in connection with the scam.
