The reign of 'Squid Game Season 2' has ended as a new Netflix original series captures viewers' attention.

According to OTT analytics site FlixPatrol on January 18, Netflix's new original series 'XO, Kitty 2,' released on January 16, has claimed the #1 spot globally in the Netflix TV program category.

The show scored 873 points and ranked #1 in 70 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Argentina.

This marks the end of 'Squid Game' Season 2's 21-day streak at #1. 'Squid Game Season 2' had maintained the #1 spot on Netflix since late December 2024, achieving a historic feat by ranking #1 in all 93 countries tracked by FlixPatrol within five days of its release.

The series amassed 1.525 billion cumulative viewing hours, making it the third most-watched Netflix production in history to date. However, this week, the new competitor 'XO, Kitty' Season 2 has taken over.

'XO, Kitty Season 2' is a teen romance set in Korea, following the story of an American girl, Kitty, navigating love and friendship during her high school life in Seoul. The series garnered global attention, topping the Netflix TV show rankings just one day after its release.

The drama’s success is partly attributed to its pre-existing fanbase. 'XO, Kitty' is a spin-off of the popular 'To All the Boys I've Loved Before' series, centering on Kitty, the younger sister of the original protagonist, Lara Jean.

The show’s stylish direction and the refreshing backdrop of Seoul have charmed viewers worldwide.

While both series are set in Korea, they have entirely different tones and themes. Squid Game Season 2 is a tense survival drama exploring revenge, violence, and the darker sides of human nature.

In contrast, 'XO, Kitty Season 2' is a lighthearted and lively romance focusing on youth, love, and friendship. The success of these two series highlights the diverse appeal of Korean content, showcasing its ability to captivate audiences across various genres.
