The Netflix series 'Squid Game' season 2 has surpassed the records set by its predecessor.
According to Netflix's internal figures (from December 23 to 29), 'Squid Game 2' reached 487.6 million viewing hours just four days after its release on December 26.
It debuted at number 1 in the Global Top 10 (Non-English) TV Shows category. Its total views (calculated by dividing total viewing hours by the full runtime) hit 68 million, securing the top spot overall. This performance beats the first-week record of the original 'Squid Game,' which had 50.1 million views and also topped the Global Top 10 (Non-English) rankings at the time.
On the daily chart, the series ranked number 1 in 93 out of 93 countries and on the (December 23 to December 29) chart ranked number 1 in 92 out of 93 countries, including South Korea, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, France, Spain, and Australia.
In just four days, 'Squid Game 2' entered Netflix' all-time Top 10 for Non-English TV Shows, ranking at number 7. Notably, the number 1 spot is still held by the original 'Squid Game.' After another view of viewing, 'Squid Game' is likely to place number 2 overall, just behind the original 'Squid Game.' Season one of 'Squid Game' reached 265.2 million views in its first 91 days. Season two has already achieved over 25% of that number in just a few days.
'Squid Game' related video games are also enjoying immense popularity. The multiplayer video game 'Squid Game: Unleashed' has ranked number 1 in the action game category on the app store in 57 countries.
Meanwhile, Squid Game 2 is the sequel to the original 'Squid Game,' portraying the intense showdown between Gi-Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung Hun) as they both re-enter the deadly game.
