Blackpink's Jisoo takes on the role of a determined 'Gomsin' (a term referring to women with boyfriends serving in the military) 'Yeongju' in Coupang Play’s new series 'Newtopia', showcasing her fearless drive as she crosses through hordes of zombies.
The released stills feature Jisoo as Yeongju, a campus queen sitting alone in a lecture hall filled with male engineering students, being asked out on a date and expressing terror as zombies suddenly appear, capturing the intensity of the moment.
A representative commented, “Despite Seoul being overrun by zombies, Yeongju’s bold determination to reach her boyfriend shines through.” Jisoo shared, “I was captivated by Yeongju’s charm from the start and felt driven to bring the character to life.”
Director Yoon Seong Hyun praised Jisoo, saying, “Her humorous personality and unique charms were a 99% match with Yeongju’s character.”
'Newtopia' is a zombie apocalypse story about Yeongju, a gomsin, and Jaeyun, a soldier, as they traverse zombie-infested Seoul to reunite. Based on the novel 'Influenza', the series premieres on February 7 at 8 PM (KST)
