The tvN drama 'Love Next Door,' which concluded early last month, will be opening pop-up stores overseas.
Produced by Studio Dragon, 'Love Next Door' gained massive popularity both domestically and internationally. The drama stayed in Netflix’s global Top 10 for non-English TV for 11 consecutive weeks. According to FlixPatrol, the show ranked in the Top 10 across 65 countries worldwide as of early September. Singapore’s largest daily newspaper, The Straits Times, attributed the drama’s success to “the cast’s acting skills, themes of family and friendship, and the fast-paced, realistic storyline.”
In response to its popularity, Studio Dragon is collaborating with Japan’s Interactive Media Mix (IMX) to open pop-up stores in four Japanese cities. Starting in Fukuoka on November 21, the stores will run until February of next year at Tower Records locations in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. During its run in Japan, 'Love Next Door' maintained a spot in Netflix Japan’s TV Top 10 for seven weeks.
Earlier, a pop-up store was held in Seoul’s The Hyundai in Yeongdeungpo from October 3 to 9, followed by a successful pop-up in Taipei’s Monstar Breeze Nanshan Branch from October 28 to November 4.
A representative from Japan’s IMX said, “'Love Next Door' generated great excitement in Japan right from its first episode. This pop-up store was organized based on local viewers’ requests and expectations. Studio Dragon’s shows, including 'Queen of Tears', continue to receive strong support in Japan.”
A Tower Records representative added, “With the growing popularity of 'Love Next Door' in Japan, we decided to open a pop-up store. We’ve received many requests from customers to hold pop-ups for Korean dramas.”
Studio Dragon has previously held pop-ups for 'Queen of Tears' across three countries, including Seoul, four cities in Japan (Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka), and Manila in the Philippines.
'Love Next Door' follows Choi Seung Hyo (played by Jung Hae In) and Bae Seok Ryu (portrayed by Jung So Min), who reunite at a crossroads in their lives, sharing their “black history” together. Directed by Yoo Je Won of 'Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,' this healing rom-com concluded with a happy ending, recording its highest rating of 8.5%.
