On November 1, KBS2 TV’s 'The Seasons - Lee Young Ji’s Rainbow' featured musical guests Jukjae, Nov, John Park, and aespa, creating an entertaining mix of stories and performances.
Lee Young Ji introduced aespa with excitement, saying, “It’s the first time we’re having a girl group on Rainbow.” Aespa appeared on stage, captivating the audience with their performance of “Supernova,” leaving fans visibly entranced.
Welcoming aespa as the first girl group on the show, Lee Young Ji asked how they felt about their debut on 'The Seasons.' Karina responded, “I’ve watched every season, from Jay Park to Jannabi’s Choi Jung Hoon and you, Young Ji. Maybe we were waiting just for you," explaining the group's delayed appearance on the show.
Lee Young Ji laughed, saying, “I don’t know if I deserve such a great opportunity!” She continued to share, "I have a special connection with these four beautiful ladies. Especially with Karina, I filmed 'No Prepare' and the episode was the top YouTube video of the year." Karina gratefully replied, “It’s all thanks to you, Young Ji.”
After performing “Supernova,” Karina expressed surprise at the song’s popularity, saying, “I didn’t expect ‘Supernova’ to be this loved. Personally, I preferred ‘Armageddon,’ which we also promoted. It seems like the songs we love end up being a bit more niche.”
Lee Young Ji then praised “Supernova,” pointing out its record-breaking success, holding the top spot on the charts for the longest time in 20 years. She humorously shared her friendly competition with aespa, saying, “In June 2024, I released ‘Small Girl.’ While it started climbing the charts, ‘Supernova’ starting from May stayed firmly at #1.”
In particular, during this latest episode, Karina expressed her admiration for John Park and said he is the "Sexiest Oppa" that she's seen.
During John Park's segment, he performed his own deep-voiced version of aespa's latest release, "Whiplash," impressing all the viewers. After John Park’s performance, Lee Young Ji asked Karina what she thought of his rendition.
Karina playfully replied, “He was the sexiest oppa I’ve ever seen.” Lee Young Ji teased her, “That’s a flirting line!” while John Park, visibly pleased, nodded in agreement. The other aespa members chimed in with compliments, adding, “He was amazing.”
John Park's interpretation of "Whiplash" also garnered much attention on various online communities. Many Korean netizens were mesmerized by John Park's deep voice, which added a seductive charm to the girl group's track.
They commented:
"Oh, it’s nice in a different way! The hook might feel a bit awkward if sung in a male key, but lowering it all the way makes it sound cool."
"Wow, amazing! It’s really good."
"Why did I come here expecting something funny… my bad, haha. It’s really great and suits him well. So cool."
"This is so good! John Park’s deep voice is incredible. The song he sang on *Sing for You* was also amazing."
"This is crazy good."
"Wow, John Park is great at R&B, but he should release a song like this too. His tone is honestly unreal."
"It feels like a totally different song, haha! He nailed it."
"His low voice tone makes the song so seductive."
"This song became sexier when he sang it. Lol."
"John Park's voice is just so perfect."
"What genre is he bad at?"
"His voice at the intro is so crazy."
