Netizens are buzzing about BLACKPINK Rosé's hit collaboration with Bruno Mars.
Their song "APT." went viral within hours, dominating iTunes charts worldwide, holding steady as one of the top songs on Spotify's daily chart, and climbing to #1 on South Korea's MelOn chart.
However, on an online community forum, one netizen pointed out that some have criticized the collaboration, claiming the song was "too low quality for a singer like Bruno Mars."
In contrast, other netizens defended the collaboration, referencing Rosé’s recent radio interview where she revealed that Bruno Mars personally chose "APT." as their collaboration song. According to the netizen's post:
"Rosé sent three songs to Bruno, fully expecting him to reject them, but when he asked, 'What even is this song, "Apartment"?' and was told it's a Korean drinking game, he immediately recorded it. So, Bruno actually chose 'Apartment' and sang it because he liked it."
The fan continued:
"But people were saying things like, 'It's a waste for someone like Bruno to sing a song like that,' 'She doesn’t know how to make good use of him,' or 'It doesn’t suit him,' and blamed it all on Rosé.
In reality, Bruno liked the song 'APT.,' which is why they sang it together. LOL.
It was a great way to share our Korean culture, and I thought Bruno’s and Rosé’s voices complemented each other really well. Why are people hating on Rosé based on baseless assumptions?"
In the comments section, many netizens agreed, leaving reactions such as:
"Bruno has won several Billboard awards—do you really think he’d pick a bad song? You can’t ignore his instincts, haha."
"Bruno Mars is known for not collaborating if he doesn't like the song, no matter how much he is offered."
"Bruno chose the song himself, so what are people thinking? Do they really believe someone forced Bruno to sing it? Bruno Mars is on a level where no one can make him do anything he doesn’t want to. The song felt a bit unusual at first, but the more I listen, the better it gets."
"Saying you don’t like the song is just personal preference, but criticizing Bruno as if that's all he can do is ridiculous, haha. Do you really think a musician of Bruno’s caliber would be passively used? He probably worked on it because he wanted to."
"Isn't trying different things part of being an artist? Some guys were criticizing it, saying there's no 'Bruno style' in it and asking if this is the best they could do with him, haha."
"Bruno has always had a playful image, even singing a song like 'Don Quixote,' so I don't understand why people say it doesn't suit him, haha. Watching the music video, it felt like an uncle and niece duo, which made it even cuter."
"Yup, this is definitely the song of the year."
"I love it. The two of them are so cute, and even Bruno looks adorable, haha."
"If they leverage the short-form content trend well, this could be a huge hit in the U.S.!"
In related news, Rosé recently tried to teach Korean to Bruno Mars in an adorable new short-form video.
