The Netflix variety show 'Culinary Class Wars' has reached the top spot in global rankings. The surge in interest in cooking shows is also spreading to the restaurant industry.
The show, which premiered on September 17, features skilled, underground chefs competing against top star chefs in a cooking competition.
Gaining popularity in Korea right after its broadcast, the program quickly became the No. 1 global TV series in Netflix's non-English category.
In addition to Korea, it ranked first in Singapore and Hong Kong and charted in 18 other countries.
International reviews are also glowing, with comments such as "I love how it showcases the diversity of Korean cuisine" and "One of the best cooking shows I've ever seen."
The show's popularity has also impacted the featured chefs' restaurants. Restaurant reservation apps have quickly compiled lists of participating chefs' eateries for marketing, and popular restaurants are already fully booked.
Some even say the show is helping "revive the struggling restaurant industry."
With 12 total episodes set to air by October 8, viewer interest continues to grow.
