Exclusive report reveals 'Squid Game' seasons 2 and 3 have wrapped up filming

An exclusive report revealed that Netflix's 'Squid Game' filmed seasons 2 and 3 simultaneously and are set to be released sequentially.

According to OSEN's report on June 14, the cast and crew of the Netflix original series 'Squid Game' recently completed filming for Seasons 2 and 3. They began filming in July 2023 and wrapped up this month, marking an 11-month journey.

To commemorate the end of filming, the cast and crew of 'Squid Game' held a wrap party in Gapyeong on the 11th and 12th of this month. The 1-night, 2-day celebration featured activities such as water sports and a barbecue, allowing everyone to celebrate the completion of filming and wish for the series' success.

Although it was exclusively reported by OSEN last year that Seasons 2 and 3 were being produced simultaneously, Netflix had denied this at the time, stating, "Currently, we are focusing on Season 2 only, and simultaneous production is not confirmed."

However, several insiders have now confirmed that 'Squid Game' was indeed filmed for both Seasons 2 and 3 simultaneously. They clarified, "It’s more accurate to say that a long story was filmed, which will be divided into Seasons 2 and 3."

Season 2 of 'Squid Game' will consist of six episodes, and Season 3 is expected to have a similar count, around six to seven episodes. This format mirrors Netflix's 'The Glory,' which had a 3-month break between Part 1 and Part 2 and was well received. Consequently, the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 of 'Squid Game' is expected to be brief.

There are also various spoilers and rumors about Season 2, such as "Young Hee's (the large large motion-sensing animatronic doll from season 1) boyfriend Cheol-su will appear" and "A more intense hardcore game than in Season 1 will be featured." Whether these are just rumors or if the male version of the murderous doll named Cheol-su will actually appear has sparked a lot of interest.

Meanwhile, 'Squid Game' Season 2 is directed, written, and produced by Hwang Dong Hyuk, who became the first Asian to win the Directing Award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. Lee Jung Jae, who also became the first Asian to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, will be returning.

In addition to returning cast members such as Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo from Season 1, the cast also includes Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Wook, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ae Shim, Lee David, Choi Seung Hyun (T.O.P), Roh Jae Won, Jo Yu Ri, Won Ji An, and Oh Dal Su, among others. The series is set to be released in the second half of 2024.
