Girls' Generation's Yuri takes lead in debut film 'Dolphin' set to premiere in March

Kwon Yuri of Girls' Generation is set to grace the big screen as the solo lead for the first time in the upcoming movie 'Dolphin', arriving in theaters this March.

Directed and written by newcomer Bae Doori, 'Dolphin' (produced by the Korean Academy of Film Arts) tells the compelling story of a woman in her 30s who leaves her small hometown to start a new life amid unfamiliar changes and challenges. The film first garnered attention at last year's Jeonju International Film Festival and has since been invited to participate in various festivals, including the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Muju Film Festival, and the Vancouver Asian Film Festival in Canada.

As Kwon Yuri's first leading role, 'Dolphin' is also drawing attention as the latest project from the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), known for consistently delivering fresh perspectives through the works of talented emerging directors. Following the footsteps of actors like Kim Seo-hyung in 'Vinyl House' and Ahn Ji-ho in 'Black Boy', who have shown a strong commitment to new acting challenges and film projects under KAFA, Kwon Yuri is expected to make a significant impact with her performance in 'Dolphin'.

This marks a significant step for Yuri, who has achieved global fame as a member of Girls' Generation and is now embarking on a new journey in acting under her real name, Kwon Yuri. This film represents her first solo leading role and her first collaboration with KAFA, making it a noteworthy venture in her acting career.

In 'Dolphin', Kwon Yuri portrays Na-young, a journalist at a local newspaper. Set against the backdrop of the quaint seaside town of Seocheon, the film delicately captures the ripples of change Na-young faces in a realistic and serene manner, promising viewers a glimpse of a new side of Kwon Yuri.

Joining her in the cast are actors Hyun Woo-seok and Shim Hee-sub, further enriching the film's narrative with their performances. Director Bae Doori, a graduate of KAFA's 15th class, has previously released short films such as 'Last Night', 'Play', and 'Closing Time', making her feature-length debut with 'Dolphin'.

So happy to see Yuri acheiving more and more as an actress. But this article is wrong about this being her first leading role. She already had a leading role way back in 2013, in a moviue with Seo In-guk and Lee jong suk called 'No breathing'.
