On November 15, an exciting announcement was made, capturing the attention of BLINKS worldwide: the first virtual concert by a K-pop act, in collaboration with Meta (formerly Facebook) and the Emmy Award-winning production company, The Diamond Bros.
This BLACKPINK VR concert is set to be an extraordinary, immersive recreation of the group's final performance at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome during their "Born Pink" world tour. What sets this event apart is its alignment with Meta CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's vision of crafting a virtual space. In this envisioned digital realm, users, through their avatars, can explore and interact in real time.
This innovative concert experience will be exclusively available in virtual reality within Meta Horizon Worlds' Music Valley, offering Meta Quest VR headset owners in select regions an unparalleled front-row experience. This venture represents a significant stride in blending cutting-edge technology with entertainment, offering a unique and futuristic concert experience unlike anything offered by other artists to date.
Through a statement, BLACKPINK expressed the following: “We’re thrilled to embrace the dynamic world of VR because it allows us to reach an even wider global audience and share our music in an entirely new, immersive way. This VR concert is not just a show, it’s an extension of the tour we poured our hearts into. We can’t wait for you to see the magic we’ve created with The Diamond Bros and Meta, thanks to our incredible BLINKs for the infinite support they have given us”
"BLACKPINK: A VR Encore" will be approximately 70 minutes long and will premiere in virtual reality on December 26 at 5 p.m. PT, replays will be available for one month after the concert. More information can be found on the Oculus/META website.
