While K-Pop brings immense joy, the dreaded "D-word" — disbandment — casts a shadow on fans' hearts. Disbandments can occur for various reasons: the infamous 7-year contract expiration, management issues, controversies, or sometimes, with no explanations at all, leaving fans without closure.
Drawing a parallel to the power of the 'resurrection stone' in fiction, if fans could reassemble any disbanded groups, here are some that top their wish list.
Note: While some of these groups might be on an "indefinite hiatus," a lack of comeback for nearly six years makes their return seem unlikely.
The most mentioned group in a Reddit thread was NU'EST. They almost disbanded earlier, but due to the popularity they gained from appearing on "Produce 101 season 2," they were able to promote longer. However, in 2022, it was announced that the group's exclusive contract with Pledis Entertainment had ended, concluding their activity.
This was such a sad one to let go of. Even fans sometimes forget that they've already disbanded. Just six years after they debuted, all six members left Source Music upon the end of their contracts and disbanded.
This 4-member girl group under TS Entertainment were only active from 2009-2018. After Sunhwa left the group to pursue her acting career, the group continued promoting as a three-member group but soon was in a dispute with their company that concluded in the group's disbandment.
Because of their edgy dance-pop style and "girl crush" image, the group attracted a large female fan base. However, due to unsuccessful contract renewal negotiations between the members and their company, Cube Entertainment, they had to disband in 2016.
This group is another sad disbandment from TS Entertainment. They only promoted for a short 7 years when all of the members left their agency. However, member Jongup confirmed the possibility of a reunion in the future, so let's hope for the best!
This is one of the groups that technically hasn't disbanded yet, but since the members are successfully promoting solo, a comeback doesn't seem so... possible. But, hey, who knows, right? This group has so much potential; they deserve more! A fan said, "I still can’t believe they dropped a banger like EOEO and then dipped."
This group seems like it was a fever dream because of how briefly they promoted. The group disbanded just after their third anniversary and the members terminated their contract with MNH Entertainment. This group was just ahead of their time and certainly deserved better.
The Produce Groups: IOI, Wanna One, IZ*ONE, X1
There's just something about the Produce groups that gets us especially attached to them, and although we knew that it was going to be a temporary group, we still wish it would be longer or even a hope of a reunion.
I.O.I
They were only together for less than a year, but they definitely left an impact and were very popular. They did briefly reunite for their 5th anniversary back in 2021, although it was only via livestream.
Wanna One
They broke records and won awards left and right when they were promoting despite only promoting for slightly over a year. They did have a reunion (without maknae, Guanlin) and performed and released a third version of their song, "Beautiful," during the 2021 MAMA Awards.
IZ*ONE
Their official fanbase, Wiz*One, did try preventing the group's disbandment by an initiative called "Parallel Universe," but to no avail as the group disbanded as planned on April 29, 2021. However, months later, CJ ENM confirmed that a discussion with the members' agencies was underway to relaunch the group potentially, but it fell through.
X1
Initially contracted for five years, but sadly, because of the adults, it led to a halt in their activities and later, their disbandment, only 5 months after their debut. Fans were absolutely devastated by how it turned out, and not one fan had closure from their disbandment.
2NE1.
