HYBE has tightened security at its headquarters in Seoul's Yongsan district in response to a threat made online.
According to Korean media reports on August 12 KST, a netizen posted warnings online that they were planning a knife attack in front of the HYBE headquarters. The threat spread online and gained the attention of the company itself, with building security ultimately banning use of the front entrance. The message reads, "I'll be knife attacking in front of the Yongsan HYBE building. Bang Si Hyuk [founder of HYBE], I hope you're there."
News outlets have revealed a sign posted by the front of the building that now reads, "Entering and exiting via front entrance restricted. Please enter and exit by detouring to the back entrance. We ask for employees' cooperation. Thank you." The police also searched the vicinity of the building on August 8 and 9, when the threat was originally received.
Ultimately, a potential attacker was not found around the building. However, the police have said they are tracking down the author of the original thread message, weighing the possibility they may be a minor. Meanwhile, HYBE has confirmed that building security is being strengthened, but has not provided further comment.
