The TV-OTT integrated drama category's latest topical rankings have just been released, and there are some exciting developments to share.
According to the reputable Good Data Corporation's report as of July 18, actor Lee Junho has emerged as the top-trending star in JTBC's 'King the Land,' securing a spot in the coveted top 10 most talked-about drama cast.
Following closely behind is YoonA, also from JTBC's 'King the Land,' in the 2nd position, while Kim Tae Ri from SBS' 'Revenant' holds the 3rd spot. Not to be outdone, Oh Jeong Se from SBS' 'Revenant' secured 4th place, and Shin Hye Sun from tvN's 'See You in My 19th Life' rose to 5th place.
Lee Junho's remarkable popularity is evident as he has now held the top spot in the topicality category for three consecutive weeks, dominating all sections of the topicality survey.
Among the recently announced 'top 10 drama TV topics,' JTBC's 'King the Land' claims the crown, ranking first. SBS' 'Revenant' follows closely in second place, with ENA's 'Lies Hidden in My Garden' securing third place and Netflix's 'Celebrity' earning the respectable fourth spot.
'King the Land,' featuring the talented duo Lee Junho and YoonA, has been captivating viewers since its premiere on June 17, winning their hearts week after week.
However, it's not all smooth sailing for 'King the Land.' The drama has faced some controversy recently, sparked by objections from Arab netizens who claimed that the portrayal of Arab prince Samir (Anupam Tripathi) in episodes 7 and 8, aired on July 8 and 9, was a "distortion of Arab culture," depicting him as a playboy and heavy partier.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, JTBC responded on July 13 with a statement, promising swift action. They mentioned that the episodes in question have been modified promptly to address the concerns raised by deleting the club scene.
JTBC assured viewers that the revised version would be available on domestic platforms, and they are actively engaging with overseas platforms to implement necessary revisions. Furthermore, as a sign of respect and understanding, JTBC issued an apology written in Arabic and initiated communication with Arabic-speaking viewers to address their dissatisfaction.
