American trot singer Maria, who appeared on the TV Chosun competition program 'Miss Trot 2,' is in a legal dispute with her agency over her exclusive contract.
According to a report by Star News on May 21 KST, Maria first filed a lawsuit against Good Day Entertainment in May 2022 to request the termination of her exclusive contract. According to the lawsuit, Maria felt a "broken trust with the agency," including invasion of personal information and privacy, use of insulting language, and lower-than-normal event fees. The agency responded that "no grounds for termination have occurred."
The court referred the case to mediation at the end of March to settle the dispute in hopes the two sides could see to an agreement between the two sides. However, a compromise was not made, bringing the case to a formal trial. The mediation between Maria and the agency concluded on May 18, as the two sides were still unable to reach an amicable point of agreement.
Following the legal battle, Good Day Entertainment insisted that Maria directly take care of the financial loss caused by the notice of termination of the exclusive contract, and Maria's side reportedly alleged they would be unable to compensate. The agency is accordingly considering a plan to file a claim against her for damages.
Meanwhile, Maria originally signed with Good Day Entertainment in March 2021 after gaining attention as a participant in 'Miss Trot 2.' She has also been active in a number of variety programs.
It takes a foreigner to have the guts to fight back, I bet there's a lot of trot singers that get the same treatment or worse and kept quiet fearing getting retaliation from old douches.
