The '32nd Seoul Music Awards' is currently facing harsh criticism, hours before the ceremony takes place live on January 19 at 7 PM KST.
Hosted by MCs Kim Il Joong, SHINee's Minho, and Lee Mi Joo, the '32nd Seoul Music Awards' will take place at the KSPO Dome in Seoul later this evening. Unlike other award ceremonies which reveal their performing and attending artist lineups well in advance to attract audiences, the '32nd Seoul Music Awards' has chosen to withhold the artist lineup until the live event.
Additionally, according to netizens online, the event has emphasized up until now that audience tickets would be distributed to attendees randomly, with no designated fan seating.
However, on January 18, fans of SHINee's Minho, GOT The Beat, and NCT Dream received notices via the artists' fan communities that fan sections for these artists would be available for reservation. These notices indicated that a total of 50 seats would be designated for fans of SHINee's Minho; a total of 225 seats each would be designated for GOT The Beat and NCT Dream.
For the past several years, some netizens have nicknamed the 'Seoul Music Awards' the 'SM Awards', arguing that the event was unfair and heavily biased toward SM Entertainment artists.
Now, with word going around that the '32nd Seoul Music Awards' is offering preferential treatment for fans of SM Entertainment artists, such claims are only gaining traction.
Netizens commented,
"They're not even trying to hide the fact that it's a biased award show anymore??"
"We already know that SM artists will receive all the awards. Congratulations in advance."
"Who will they give the 'Daesang' to this year? Because no one who actually deserves it will be there??"
"It's amazing how little shame they have."
"SM isn't even the biggest agency anymore, so can't some of the other large agencies do something about this dumb award show already??"
"I can't even imagine what kind of nonsensical awards they're gonna give out this year."
"You're just embarrassing yourselves SM, just stop."
"SM artists totally flopped this year."
"Rigging and fabricating everything so openly... They've given up any form of respect at this point."
"The most worthless and meaningless awards of all."
A lot of award shows have biases for certain companies, and I think it just ruins the integrity of the awards themselves.
