For K-pop groups, winning the first music show trophy is a monumental and important milestone and is an exceptional accomplishment. Weekly winners are announced on music shows, including Inkigayo, Music Core, Music Bank, Show Champion, etc., and every group works hard to get their hands on the trophy from their first music show win as soon as they can. As of now, there are seven K-pop groups that have achieved this remarkable feat within a week of their debut.
WINNER – 4 Days
YG Entertainment’s third-generation boy group WINNER made their official debut on August 17, 2014, with the full-length album “2014 S/S.” Dubbed the “OG Monster Rookies,” WINNER debuted with two title tracks: “Empty” and “Color Ring.” On August 21, WINNER ranked first on "M Countdown" with "Empty," earning them their first music show win just four days after their debut. For the victory, they faced off against BLOCK B.
X1 – 5 Days
X1 was a K-pop boy group that was formed through the Mnet reality survival program “Produce X 101” by CJ ENM. X1 debuted officially on August 27, 2019, with the debut single “FLASH.” On the September 1 episode of SBS MTV’s “The Show,” the song was placed at the top, which earned X1 their first music show win just 5 days after their debut. The group was disbanded in 2020 following the Mnet vote manipulation investigation.
SSAK3 – 5 Days
SSAK3 is a seasonal co-ed K-pop supergroup that was formed on the MBC variety show “Hangout with Yoo.” They made their debut on July 25, 2020, with the single “BEACH AGAIN.” The group is comprised of three veterans of the South Korean entertainment industry: Yoo Jae-suk, Rain, and Lee Hyori. With the lead single "BEACH AGAIN" on "M Countdown" on July 30, SSAK3 won their first music show victory five days after making their debut.
CIX – 7 Days
CIX stands for “Complete in X.” CIX is a five-piece K-pop boy group formed by C9 Entertainment. The group made their debut on July 23, 2019, with "HELLO CHAPTER 1: HELLO, STRANGER," their first extended play album. “Movie Star” was the title track of the album. With the main track, CIX won their first music show trophy on "The Show" just seven days after their debut on July 30. CIX competed against PENTAGON and VAV for the win.
IVE – 7 Days
Rookie of the Year awards holder IVE debuted on December 1, 2021, with their debut single album “ELEVEN“ and the lead track of the same name. They became the fastest girl group to win first place since debuting with their first music show victory on the December 8 broadcast of MBC's "Show Champion." 13 wins, including the triple crown on Music Bank, Music Core, and Inkigayo, were earned by "ELEEVN." It ended up becoming the K-pop girl group's debut song with the highest music show win.
VIVIZ – 7 Days
VIVIZ, along with IVE, holds the record of being the fastest girl group to get their first music show win. The group is comprised of three former GFriend members: Eunha, Umji, and SinB. VIVIZ made their debut on February 9, 2022, with the release of their debut extended play album, “BEAM OF PRISM.” 7 days after their debut on the February 16 episode of “Show Champion,” the title track “BOP BOP!” was ranked at the top, and VIVIZ earned their first-ever music show win.
WSG Wannabe – 7 Days
As of now, WSG Wannabe is the last and most recent group to get a music show win within a week of their debut. WSG Wannabe is a twelve-member seasonal K-pop supergroup that was formed through the MBC variety show “Hangout with Yoo.” The group made their official debut on July 16, 2022. WSG Wannabe (Gaya-G) won their first music show trophy on MBC's "Music Core" on July 23, just seven days after their debut, with the song "AT THAT MOMENT."
Only these seven K-pop groups have thus far succeeded in winning their first music show award within a week of their debut. Obtaining a victory this quickly is not at all easy. It is commendable that this accomplishment could be attained in such a short amount of time.
Highly inaccurate, I'm afraid! TXT & ITZY are missing and I do believe CIX took their first win 6 days after debut.
