Winning the first music show trophy is a momentous and significant occasion for K-pop groups. Music shows like Inkigayo, Music Core, Music Bank, Show Champion, etc., announce the weekly winners on their shows. Every group strives to get their hands on the trophy from their first music show victory as quickly as possible. In 2022, many K-pop groups achieved the sweet taste of their first music show victory. Here are some of the groups that achieved their first win this past year.
Kep1er
Formed through the survival program “Girls Planet 999,” rookie girl group Kep1er got their first-ever music show win with their debut title song “WA DA DA” on January 13 at Mnet’s “M Countdown.” On January 3, Kep1er made their debut, and 10 days later, they achieved the remarkable feat of winning their first music show trophy.
GOT The Beat
GOT The Beat is a female supergroup formed by SM Entertainment. They made their debut with the digital single “Step Back” on January 3. This supergroup is composed of six idols from different SM Entertainment girl groups and soloist BoA. “Step Back” ranked first on the January 30 episode of SBS’s Inkigayo, and GOT The Beat took home their first music show trophy.
VIVIZ
VIVIZ holds the record of being the fastest girl group to get a music show win together with IVE. VIVIZ, a three-member rookie girl group made up of former GFriend members, debuted with their first extended play album, “Beam of Prism.” The lead single of the album “BOP BOP!” placed at the top on the February 16 episode of “Show Champion” and earned them the first win just after a week after their debut.
TREASURE
After a year-long hiatus, the youngest boy group from YG Entertainment, TREASURE, returned early this year with their first mini album, "THE SECOND STEP: CHAPTER ONE." The title track, “JIKJIN,” earned them their first-ever music show win after 18 months of their debut. On February 23, TREASURE won for the first time as they took first place in the program "Show Champion."
DREAMCATCHER
The most memorable and significant music show win of the year belongs to the K-pop girl group DREAMCATCHER. The group won their very first music show trophy on the April 20 episode of "Show Champion" with the song “MAISON.” This is the title track of their second full-length album, “APOCALYPSE: SAVE US.”
LE SSERAFIM
Source Music’s rookie girl group LE SSERAFIM got impressive success in a short period of time. Their debut was highly anticipated as two of the group’s members previously belonged to the popular disbanded girl group IZ*ONE. On May 10, barely eight days after their debut, they received their first win on "The Show" with their debut song, "FEARLESS."
WSG Wannabe
WSG Wannabe is a twelve-member seasonal South Korean supergroup that was formed through the MBC variety program "Hangout with Yoo." The group made their debut in 2022. On MBC's "Music Core" show on July 23, WSG Wannabe (Gaya-G) gained their first music show award with the song "AT THAT MOMENT."
NewJeans
Soon after making their debut, the popular rookie girl group NewJeans from ADOR, a subsidiary of Hybe Corporation, quickly rose to widespread popularity. With their debut single "Attention," NewJeans won their first music show trophy on August 18 at Mnet's "M Countdown."
DKZ
The boy band DKZ (formerly known as Dongkiz) of Dongyo Entertainment made a comeback on October 6 with the release of their seventh single album, "CHASE EPISODE 3. BEUM.” The title track of the album “UH-HEUNG” earned the boy group their first trophy on a music show since their debut. DKZ was placed at number one on SBS MTV’s program “The Show” on October 18.
VERIVERY
Formed and managed by Jellyfish Entertainment, VERIVERY is a South Korean boy group that made their debut in 2019. This year the group released their third single album, ‘LIMINALITY – EP.LOVE,’ with the title track “TAP TAP.” Later, with "TAP TAP," VERIVERY won their first-ever music show trophy on the November 23 episode of MBC's "Show Champion."
TEMPEST
TEMPEST is a rookie boy group under Yuehua Entertainment, who made their debut early this year. Their latest comeback with “DRAGON,” which is the main track of their third mini album ‘ON AND ON,’ brought TEMPEST their first music show win. “DRAGON” was announced as the winner on the November 30 episode of “Show Champion.”
CSR
CSR is a rookie girl group formed and managed by A2Z Entertainment. They made a comeback in November with their first single album, “SEQUENCE: 17&.” The lead single of the album “♡Ticon" placed first on KBS's "Music Bank," which aired on December 2, giving the rookie group their first-ever music show victory.
