The police have launched an investigation into the individual who tried to sell BTS Jungkook's hat online for 10 million KRW (~7,006.31 USD). It was revealed that the individual turned himself into the police and submitted the hat.
According to the Seocho Police Station on October 25, they're currently conducting an investigation to check the facts about the listing that is selling the lost item that had that allegedly belonged to BTS's Jungkook.
About a week ago, an item was listed on a selling/buying/trading website. The item in question was a black Kangol hat alleged to be worn by BTS's Jungkook and listed for sale at 10 million KRW (~7,006.31 USD). The seller identified himself as a government official working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and even posted his work ID as proof.
The individual explained they got the hat in September of last year and shared that Jungkook had left it at the passport department at the foreign affairs ministry. The post explained, "Jungkook left the hat in the waiting area last year when BTS visited the passport department in secret to make diplomatic passports." The individual also explained how they were able to take ownership of the item and said, "There was no phone call or visitation for six months looking for the item even after the item was reported. So the person who found it is able to take ownership."
After the post became controversial and received much criticism, the individual deleted the post. It was then revealed the individual turned themself in on October 18 and submitted the hat they were trying to sell. It is reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Passport Division is located in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the Seocho Police Station has taken over the case and is investigating it.
The author, as usual, didn't lift a finger to explain what the legal issue is about. So we have to guess. Maybe if they work for the Korean government, they aren't allowed to profit from something like this? Probably not the best guess. Anyone else have any guesses or information that can explain what the legal issue is all about?
