Coupang Play responded to 'Anna' director Lee Joo Young's plans to file a lawsuit against the streaming service.
As previously reported, Lee Joo Young's lawyer revealed the director is seeking to file a lawsuit against Coupang Play for making changes to the drama's format, including number of episodes and length of episode. The director further requested their name be removed from the credits for the drama.
On August 3, Coupang Play stated, "We learned editing did not reflect the direction originally agreed upon by Coupang Play, the director, and production company." The streaming platform then stated the director was asked to make changes, but did not comply, saying, "After getting permission from the production company and by using our rights as stated in the contract, we made the changes to reflect the story originally agreed upon by all parties, which resulted in 'Anna' becoming a success."
Finally, Coupang Play revealed they'd be releasing a special, 8-episode version of 'Anna' to respect the director's wishes. The 8-episode version is expected to premiere in August.

So wait. Coupang Play blames the director, but then decides to air the 8 episode version? What ingenious marketing. They get to air "Anna" twice.
