When talking of matters of dance and performing, there is a general consensus that Jimin is a 'Dance King' among the many other titles that he has been accorded for his entrancing moves.
It is impossible to look away from him when he is dancing, and his performances stay in the hearts and minds of the audience and continue to be hot topics long after they are over, an example being his 2018 MMA traditional Korean fan dance that had him win an individual award [read here]. His solo stages are used as highlights in promotional videos for awards shows [read here], and rookie idols look up to him as their role model and their source of inspiration when it comes to performing [read here and here]. Seasoned and highly revered professionals in other fields study his dance for self-improvement like the case of Yuzuru Hanyu [read here], and even prominent artists derive inspiration from his beautiful dance lines on stage to create artwork for national exhibitions, such as the art piece by artist Goheon Kim Ho-Sung and the fresco painting by Honorary Professor Jin Young-Sun from Seoul National University [read here]. Kang Myung-Seok, a cultural critic who was a judge at MAMA, called Jimin "a symbolic artist who is the flower of the awards ceremony" and said that "he is the reason why anyone should watch MAMA," as reported by Korean media. In the field of dance, Jimin comes second to none.
This is why the public and media never run out of praise for him. Kim Shin-young, a host on the MBC radio show 'Song of Hope,' recently mentioned and praised Jimin for his dance. He mentions Jimin having won a global dance poll to be crowned the 'Best Dancer' for four consecutive years. He says how pretty Jimin's dance lines are and says that "when it comes to dancing, it is definitely Jimin." He then delves into Jimin's background in dance, naming the different dance genres where Jimin is skilled and mentions how his modern dance teacher tried to stop him from becoming an idol because it would be a loss of talent for the school. He explicitly states that if Jimin was to perform traditional Korean music, it would definitely rise in popularity.
Kim Shin-young was referring to the Dabeme dance poll that ended recently, where Jimin was crowned as the 'Best Male Dancer' for the fourth consecutive year after garnering 330,167 votes. His consistency in maintaining the title each year shows that fans worldwide also see him as the best male dancer in K-pop.
Apart from the Dabeme Best Male Dancer poll, Jimin has also won other dance polls consistently, such as the King Choice 'Best Male K-pop Idol Dancer' for two consecutive years, Kpop Vote 'Best K-pop Dancer of 2021', and Japan's Netlab survey for 'Best Male Idol Dancer in K-pop.' Jimin emerging as the winner in all these different polls by different organizers year after year clears any doubt that he is the unbeaten top dancer in the industry.
When asked to describe dance, Jimin said it is his world. It is what he does best, and it comes so naturally to him. His skill diversity in different dance genres, whereby he infuses each of them into his moves, gives him distinctive signature moves that no one else can replicate, and this is why he stands out in any performance. This is why he is a 'dance king' and a 'dance god.'
