As many as 13 new teams are expected to debut by 2023 under the top 5 entertainment agencies representative of K-Pop, including HYBE Labels, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and CJ ENM.
Due to numerous setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, only two teams debuted under the big 5 in 2021 - Xdinary Heroes under JYPE and INI under CJ ENM's Japan branch.
Now that the entertainment industry has returned to normalcy, here's a breakdown of new team launch plans by the big 5 between 2022~2023, below.
1. HYBE Labels
The following teams are expected to debut by 2023 under HYBE Labels.
a) ADOR girl group a.k.a Min Hee Jin's girl group (3rd quarter of 2022)
b) &Team (K, Nicholas, EJ, Taki + more members to be selected through a Fuji TV survival program in July of 2022)
c) HYBE's first American girl group in partnership with Geffen Records
d) New Big Hit Music boy group (TXT's younger sibling group)
e) New Pledis Entertainment boy group
2. SM Entertainment
The following teams are expected to debut by 2023 under SM Entertainment.
a) NCT Tokyo
b) NCT Hollywood in partnership with MGM Records (American audition program 'K-Pop Goes Hollywood' expected to air some time in the second half of 2022)
c) New SM boy group outside of NCT format
3. JYP Entertainment
The following teams are expected to debut by 2023 under JYP Entertainment.
a) Winners of SBS's 'LOUD' (5-member boy group expected to debut in 3rd quarter of 2022)
b) JYP Japan boy group in partnership with Sony Music (NiziU's sibling group)
c) JYP's first American girl group in partnership with Republic Records
4. CJ ENM
The following teams are expected to debut by 2023 under CJ ENM.
a) CJ ENM's first South American boy group in partnership with Endemol Shine Boomdog (Members will be chosen through a male audition program set to air in Mexico)
b) Winners of 'I-Land 2' in partnership with BeLift Lab ('I-Land 2' expected to air in the second half of 2022)
5. YG Entertainment
The following team is expected to debut by 2023 under YG Entertainment.
a) BLACKPINK's younger sibling girl group (Made up of all members in their teens)
Which of these teams are you looking forward to the most?
Too saturated. Some of these companies are just spitting them out at this point. I feel like 2nd and 3rd gen had spaced out debuts. These companies are debuted every trainee in the building these days.
