Right Now is Gaho's first-ever full-length release despite his numerous OST hits. On a 12 song release, Gaho showcases a wide range of versatility through the command of various genres. "OOO," for example, takes on a contemporary rock genre right away to start off the album. Exciting and appropriate for an introductory song, "OOO" also transitions seamlessly to springy "Lost my way." Gaho offers a feel-good performance that showcases his vocal ability through a number of challenging notes and lilts.
"Right Now" begins as a ballad with acoustic guitar emphasizing the overall mood of the track. As the album's emotional title, "Right Now," demands full attention with its compellingly moving sound. Gaho gives an excellent performance and puts a considerable amount of feeling into the song that makes its mid-tempo interesting.
"Anyways" focuses a bit more on harmonies than anything. A bit safer in concept to his other songs, "Anyways" is sweet and reassuring. Where "Right Now" is intense and emotional, "Anyways" is safe and simple. Luckily, we are gifted with more of Gaho's specialty: R&B and pop, with "Rush Hour." With a positive emotion and joyful melody, "Rush Hour" is uplifting and comfortable.
"Afraid" follows the same formula as many of the other tracks, with a slow and mellow intro that builds into a powerful climax at the chorus. Though it's the same general song arrangement, it strangely doesn't feel overdone or repetitive. Gaho's succinct ability to give a unique vocal delivery to each song makes each song an individual experience.
Gaho speeds things up with a funky electronic instrumental on manic "Part time lover." Though his singing sounds excellent on this, I can't say the sky-high chorus resonates well. The song is a bit jarring in comparison to the rest of the album. By this part of the tracklist, "RIDE," and "High" capitalize on that same quasi-high-energy with safe pop songs.
"Crush" is the ballad that I was waiting for. Gaho's ability to evoke complex emotions through vocal delivery is no joke, and "Crush" is the cardinal example of this on Fireworks. Gaho opts to close out his album with two R&B pop songs entitled, "Friend" and "Like the moon." In comparison, "Friend" is moving and lively, whereas "Like the moon" is more romantic and sweet. This release felt like an easy listen overall. However, I found the tracklist to be a bit chaotic.
MV REVIEW
For his emotional single, "Right Now," GAHO brings a somber visual in his MV. As he runs along the beach and belts his sky-high notes, GAHO's MV cinematography is intriguing and laced with epic drone shots. Though most of "Right Now" is in black and white, there is no lack of intensity. His minimalist MV approach really put his singing in the spotlight, which gave GAHO's MV an ultra-compelling plot despite its visual simplicity. The MV's aesthetics paired perfectly to the song's impassioned and moving feel.
