The highly anticipated Marvel movie 'Eternals' finally opened in theatres on November 3. BTS' Jimin's fans went all out to support him as his first-ever self-written, composed, and produced song 'Friends' had been confirmed to be in the movie as a soundtrack. They ran advertisements at ticket machine slots all around South Korea, bought tickets to the movie even though some confessed that they were not really Marvel movie fans, and trended hashtags on Twitter to celebrate Jimin and his work. With such massive support, the movie posted impressive results on its opening day.
Deadline Hollywood, an American entertainment news outlet, reported that the movie took the first position in terms of revenue at the Wednesday Box Office in South Korea. Film Updates, an account concerned with matters of the film industry, reported that the movie's first-day revenues amounted to $2.6 million. This became the second-best opening day in the country during the pandemic. This also turned out to be the biggest opening day for the movie out of the 14 markets in which it was screened.
Earlier on, ALLFORJIMIN and JAMJAM, two of Jimin's fanbases in South Korea, had announced that they would be running advertisements at a total of 1500 unmanned ticket machines at CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox around the entire nation to celebrate the inclusion of the song 'Friends,' written, composed, and produced by Jimin, in the OST of 'Eternals,' the new Marvel movie.
The adverts were scheduled to go live from November 3, the day of the movie's opening in theatres in South Korea, up to November 9. Thus, fans visited the movie ticket kiosks and took photos and videos of the ads as soon as the ads were running.
The writings "Eternals OST: Friends. Produced by BTS JIMIN" are on the advertisement for everyone visiting the movie ticket kiosks to see.
Fans who went to see the movie posted videos and photos on social media, showing Jimin's name in the ending credits, which was one of their proudest moments as Jimin's fans. Some fans even organized to watch the movie together, carrying banners with messages of support for Jimin, a clear indication that they went to watch the film because of him. The messages on the banners said, "Producer Park-nim, we support and cheer for you now and in the future." Of note is that this was just the screening in Daegu, and there are still more screenings to come in other cities like Seoul and Busan, where Jimin also has a big following.
Some fans recounted funny experiences while at the theatre. One explained why her picture of the ending credits with Jimin's name was blurry, saying she had mistaken a guy sitting next to her for a Marvel fan, but got shook when he took a picture of the ending credits too with his phone to mean he was actually a Jimin fan-boy who also came to witness Jimin's name in the ending credits.
Another fan narrated how it was easy to hear Jimin's voice as the song played, saying his voice was very clear as the scene starts with his intro, then most of the song plays in the background all through the scene.
As the celebrations following the opening of the movie in theaters went on with fans sending Jimin their congratulations and expressing their excitement at the reality of witnessing Jimin's name in the ending credits of such a big Hollywood film production, Jimin got trending all over Twitter. Various hashtags and keywords trended in different countries, and some tags got into the worldwide trends.
In summary, there were 2 worldwide trends, 2 trends in South Korea, more than 20 keywords, and more than 55 total trends in over 16 countries.
'Friends' also became the number 1 hot search word on Melon; Jimin became the highest-ranking individual on Google searches, in topics related to the movie all through that day; and 8 related queries with 3 related topics on Jimin's credit scenes and the song 'Friends' came up on YouTube searches on the movie 'Eternals' all through that day as well.
