Jimin's brand power has come to light yet again. 'Singles,' a Korean women's fashion magazine, recently published a feature on the influence of celebrity advertising on sales.
The magazine demonstrated how and why various brands are now seeking Korean celebrities as brand ambassadors. While discussing the success that the Samsung Galaxy Z campaign has had due to BTS as global ambassadors for Samsung, the author quoted, "I 100% bought it because of Jimin."
The quote by the magazine was in reference to what many of Jimin's fans said when they bought the phone, such as in this tweet. Such a statement could have gotten anyone intrigued by Jimin's brand power because the device was not priced on the cheap side in terms of a mass-market product. It was going for roughly $1,000 and sometimes more, based on the location of the store of purchase. In this case, this fan already had a phone and was not exactly in need of one, but still bought the highly-priced GalaxyZFlip3 because of Jimin 100%.
Rolling Stone magazine had previously reported on Samsung's announcement regarding the #GalaxyZFilp3 pre-orders outpacing all Galaxy Z device sales in 2021, thanks to BTS' endorsement of the product as Samsung's global brand ambassadors.
As a member of BTS, Jimin undoubtedly played a massive role in this campaign's success. He has been the number one male idol in Brand Reputation for 34 consecutive months and 36 months overall. The Brand Reputation index measures the marketability of an idol in South Korea based on the perception of the general public towards the idol.
Jimin was also the first male idol to rank first in the now discontinued Gallup Survey for 'Korea's Most Preferred Idol,' thereby setting a record. He set another record when he topped the survey for two years straight, 2018 and 2019. He had also been the highest-ranking BTS member in this survey since 2016. Gallup is an international research company that conducts surveys on public opinion for various topics, with the most notable one being presidential elections. Their surveys have 95% reliability.
Data from Google Trends collected as of August 2021 also shows that Jimin was the most searched BTS member in the past year and the past five years, in the news category as well as the celebrity and entertainment category, in web searches, image searches, and YouTube searches.
Therefore, it is not a surprise that he is reported to have had such a significant impact on the overall sales of the phone. In fact, Samsung has previously reported on its impact on previously released phone models like the S20, when the model ranked first in a survey on consumer interest in the latest phone models at that time. Various media outlets in South Korea and internationally published reports mentioning Jimin's impact on the brand's sales and its market ranking.
