Jimin is widely known for his brand power and the ability to sell out any kind of product at any given price range in record time. His photocard from the #TokopediaxBTS collaboration was sold out in under 6 minutes.
Tokopedia, one of the biggest technology companies in Southeast Asia, is one of the brands that have a collaboration with BTS as brand ambassadors. The company is an e-commerce platform based in Indonesia. It offers a free C2C business platform for consumers and suppliers. Well-known brands can also have official stores on the platform for their B2C relations.
The collaboration between BTS and Tokopedia aims to promote the brand, particularly in South Korea. Mainly, the platform is widely known for promotions in Indonesia. As such, various K-pop artists promote their song and album releases on the platform and treat their fans with performances. All through the ‘Waktu Indonesia Belanja’ (Indonesia Shopping Time) (WIB) show that is held monthly, fans enjoy various perks such as cash backs, discounts, and free shipping on purchases made through Tokopedia.
BTS started collaborating with the brand in July 2020, and so the partnership is celebrating twelve months so far. For the anniversary celebration, the brand organized an event where buyers of certain products during a specified period, would be eligible to receive photo cards of the BTS members. Each member had a different day for when his photocard would be available.
On August 21, at 12 noon Western Indonesian Time (WIB), Tokopedia tweeted that Jimin's exclusive photocard would be available to those who shopped for products bearing the EXTRA FREE ONGKIR logo between 15:00 and 16:00 WIB. Therefore, this offer was to go live three hours after the posting of the tweet.
At the stipulated time of 15:00 WIB, the offer went live, and Tokopedia once again tweeted the link for the offer to flag it off.
At exactly 6 minutes later, the brand once again made another tweet informing consumers that Jimin's version of the exclusive BTS photocard had been sold out, implying that the photocard was sold out in under 6 minutes.
It is not surprising that Jimin's brand power is that impactful. In fact, as of today, Jimin has been at the top of the brand reputation ranking for individual boy group members for 32 consecutive months and 34 cumulative months, after he topped the August ranking. Brand reputation analyzes big data using four indexes, to determine the marketability of an idol based on the perception of the general public of the idol. Typically, idols who rank high on this spectrum are considered to be more favorable for brand endorsement deals and other forms of collaborations with companies.
