SM Entertainment leads the album sales from all Kpop agencies for the first half of 2021 because of the massive growth of NCT's fandom. SM also debuted two members of Red Velvet before the group's comeback in August. And EXO finally made their highly-anticipated comeback as a group which increased album sales for SM.
HYBE takes the second spot with amazing sales from its labels, Bighit Music, Pledis, and Belift Lab. Even with the absence of BTS's physical album comeback in the first half, Hybe still enjoyed huge album sales.
JYP Entertainment shows a strong appearance in third even with the absence of Stray Kids for a Korean comeback and GOT7 leaving the label, thanks to their girl groups. ITZY has shown an amazing amount of album sales. TWICE also had high album sales with their most recent comeback. It is predicted that JYPE will be debuting three groups in the next year, two male groups in Korea and China, and one regular girl group.
YG Entertainment is fourth with high physical sales from BLACKPINK and TREASURE. It is a new strategy for YG to focus more on physical than digital, proved by the record of ROSÉ's album sales and also the new YG's boy group, TREASURE.
Check out the charts of the top four below.
Why add all hybe subsidiaries together and yet not do same for SM?. Woollim is to SM what pledis is to hybe right?. Yes woollm idols might not be selling in millions, but rocket punch and dripping released albums this year, so either count subsidiaries for all companies or dont do it at all.
