[Album Ranking] Weki Meki “LOCK END LOL” The 2nd Single Album (TheNatureKing Reviews)

Weki Meki finally gets the last laugh

In this Album Ranking, we will be judging Weki Meki<LOCK END LOL>'s presented Artistry, Production, and Longevity, first on the level of the individual song and then on the level of the album overall.

*Note: The Album Ranking is based off of my own grading scale known as the 'Song Quality Index'. I developed this system in an attempt to accurately and fairly represent my opinion in a fair and consistent manner. The following results do not solely reflect my personal opinion as a casual listener, but rather as a musical critic. I hope you keep this in mind when proceeding forward.

***For Reference: The Grading Scale (S > A > B > C > F) = (Stellar/Superior > Art > Balanced/Blossom > Commercialized > Flop)

    Picky Picky*

    • Artistry [A]
    • Production [A]
    • Longevity [A]
    • OVERALL:  A for Art.

Comments: Weki Meki presents us a catchy, chant-worthy chorus over bouncy electropop, and ironically enough, no amount of nitpicking could lead to any serious faults within "Picky Picky". While I initially felt the second verse was a bit underwhelming (I was anticipating more rap from them?), upon listening to it further, the impression had faded. Weki Meki's intentions with "Picky Picky" are straightforward, and the result is satisfying.

    Whatever U Want

    • Artistry [B]
    • Production [B]
    • Longevity [B]
    • OVERALL: B for Balanced/Blossom.

Comments: Suffering from a tragic case of an ill-matched chorus, "Whatever U Want" successfully baits listeners for a whole minute only to disappoint once they're reeled in. The incongruousness of the chorus from literally every other aspect of the song is ultimately the song's biggest blunder, and prevents it from the A-grade it truly deserves. Only diehard fans of the discombobulated bubblegum pop-esque chorus will be able to stomach a delusive track like this.

    Petal Fortune

    • Artistry [A]
    • Production [A]
    • Longevity [A]
    • OVERALL: A for Art.

Comments: "Petal Fortune" is the musical embodiment of "cherry on top" and serves as a simplistic, sweet finisher to the three-track single album. Zero complaints. All ears.

    ALBUM FINAL SCORE: [?]

    ***For Reference: The Scoring Scale (S > S- > A > B > C > F+ > F) = (11 > 10 > 8 > 5 > 2 > 0 > -1).

****NOTE: S- is the standard. Perfect S's are bonus. Absolute F's are negative.

    The Math: [A / B / A] = (8 + 5 + 8) = (21). Since there are three songs in total, the "maximum" score Weki Meki's 2nd Single Album <LOCK END LOL> can receive is 30pts.

    (21 / 30 = .7) = (70%).

In other words, Weki Meki's 3rd Single Album <LOCK END LOL> ultimately receives a Percentile Ranking of 70% (or 70/100), thus placing it in the A Minus Grade Zone (A-).

    Final Thoughts...

Fourth time's the charm is so truly accurate with Weki Meki. After three shaky title tracks, Weki Meki seems to have truly found their groove -- and their ditch, if "Whatever U Want" is any indication. As long as Weki Meki continues to keep the development and layers of their songs relatively close to each other as far as foundations go, they'll be alright.

In <LOCK END LOL> the creative risks are mostly limited to Weki Meki's styling -- not their music -- and this decision is prefered.
