On January 10, the first day of the award ceremony took place at Ilsan Kintex. The Daesang went to IU and the singer gave a heartfelt acceptance speech. The audience including fellow artists listened attentively. Unfortunately, many netizens claim they were unable to focus due to the shouts and screams of several fandoms.

Whenever popular boy groups, Wanna One and BTS, were caught on camera during IU's speech, their fandoms let out a loud scream. (1:30 in the video above)

Netizens found the fans' actions highly inappropriate, especially since IU was talking about the late SHINee member Jonghyun. Criticism fired against the fandoms. Netizens commented, "Seriously, why are they screaming when IU's dedicating a speech to a late artist... They need to understand the situation before they act", "They don't have common sense."

In response to the criticism, several fans apologized on online communities. An ARMY commented, "I'm an ARMY, and it's 100% ARMYs fault. I'm so so sorry and I believe the ARMYs who attended the award show need to reflect on their actions", "I'm so embarrassed. So sorry", "The artists looked embarrassed themselves. Fans need to understand what's going on before they shout..."
