A operator of Song Joong Ki's fan cafe 'Ki Aile' has apologized for stealing funds sent in by fans.
Late last week, the fan cafe operators' use of funds was called into question by members, who revealed they suspected operators of embezzling funds. The funds, which had a spike after Song Joong Ki's hit drama 'Descendants of the Sun', were intended to be used for making signs and other fan activities. However, members stated the operators were not transparent about transactions and receipts, and they were also unable to contact the fan cafe's treasurer.
The members' suspicions turned out to be founded as operator Miso made a public apology to the cafe's 85,000 registered fans. Miso expressed, "After there were suspicions about fan cafe support spending, J asked me to show the account transactions. However, I was scared my mistake would come to light, so I could not show any of the transactions. I will take responsibility for my actions. I will not avoid responsibility."
According to media outlet The Fact, Miso stole almost 2.8 million Won (~$2,500 USD), while J used 1.6 million Won (~$1,440 USD). They're reported to have charged fan cafe members triple the cost of signs supporting Song Joong Ki and split the profit between themselves. In total, the two operators are reported to have misappropriated about 6.4 million Won (~$5,700 USD).
Song Joong Ki's agency Blossom Entertainment previously stated on the issue, "We are not connected to the official fan cafe, and we do not interfere in fan cafe matters."
